Aging is surrounded with thoughts of issues and loss. Frequently those nagging thoughts overtake the many memories and hopes of the past. If you are lucky you have experienced passion and it can remain an active part of your consciousness. This rekindling of experiences that set your imagination on fire is what makes life worth living.
Oak Crest continues its mission today by meeting the changing needs of seniors and their families while maintaining a current approach to care; networking within the community for service excellence; and striving for excellence in value and ethics.
As we age we learn our limitations, although we become aware of how quickly time passes, how precious the days become when there are worthwhile activities to be part of and how great it is to have people with which we share experiences. It is frequently said that “if you don’t use it you lose itâ€, and if you think about that adage you will probably recall many things that you used to do but stopped and now feel that they are out of reach. By the same token you may think that you are too old to pick up a new language or the computer, at Oak Crest we have seen folks surprise themselves with these very new skills.
The Oak Crest Philosophy is very simple: “Treat each person as you would like to be treated†and as if that individual were your mother or father, grandfather or grandmother, the loved one you care most about.
With this thought in mind you can see how we are led to frequently describe our organization and its staff, members and volunteers as family.
Founded 105 years ago, Oak Crest has always had as its mission to provide a comfortable and dignified home for older adults.
